PROJECT TOPIC: TEACHING STRATEGIES ON STUDENT’S PERFORMANCE IN BASIC SCIENCE IKOT EKPENE SENATORIAL DISTRICT OF AKWA IBOM STATE

Project Body:

Background of the Study

Several strategies or methods of teaching have been used in the teaching of basic science over the years. Some of these methods include Lecture Method, Dramatization Method, Demonstration Method, Discussion Method, Laboratory Work, Library Work among others (Seweje 2000; Kehinde 2003, Jegede 2007). With the passage of time other teaching strategies have come into use. These include problem solving method. Guided Discovery Method, Injury Method, Scientific Project, Cooperative or Team Teaching, Individualized Instruction, Excursion or Field trips Method (Asiyai 2005 and Njoku 2006) in recent times the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) has become prominent in the teaching of basic science. One of the benefits of the ICT is use of power point presentation in teaching. Ukwumodu, Saidu and Adler (2009) explain that power point is a powerful piece of presentation software that enables any reasonable computer literate teacher to make looking slides with ease. These slides can be displayed to students via Data projector to accompany a lesson with text, video clips, animation and audio. Rickman and Grudzinski (2000) in a survey study found that out of 1,682 students used, 85% considered power point lessons to be interesting that the ones taught without such facility.
