PROJECT TOPIC: IMMORTALITY OF THE SOUL IN THOMAS AQUINAS AND THE ANNANG TRADITIONAL VIEW: A COMPARATIVE STUDY

Project Body:

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1   Background of the Study

Whether human beings are mortal or immortal—whether we fully die on death or merely move into a different phase of existence–is a perennial question for humanity, not least for philosophers and theologians.  In addressing these concerns religious narratives have dictated the bodily resurrection as the panacea for the implacable destiny of human mortality.  What is so thought provoking about the Christian doctrine of bodily resurrection is that it generates many answers to the questions that surround human identity.  The ambition of this research is to provide an exegesis of the approaches that one medieval philosopher, Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274), took to this issue[1].
