PROJECT TOPIC: PREDICTING OVERPRESSURE AND SUBNORMAL ZONES USING DRILLING BASED INTERPRETATIONS AND LOGS

Project Body:

CHAPTER ONE

1.1   Introduction

The use of oil and natural gas will continue to be the source of energy  in the day to day’s activities of the world economy, this is why we cannot do without drilling in the search for oil and gas.

Drilling goes on in the deep and shallow sea (off shore) on land (onshore) and in the swamp of all continent of the world, Africa is one the continent where much of the drilling are taking place and Nigeria is one of the country in the Africa continent where drilling activities are taking place especially for oil and natural gas because, 90% of Nigeria revenue comes from oil and gas industry.

While searching for oil and natural gas, there are lots of risks associated with the oil well drilling, one of such risk is pore pressure associated with the oil reservoir. Naturally, formation of oil and gas takes a lot of years due to the process taking place at the subsurface of the earth when the dead animals were buried and lot more of deposition and compaction on it generate temperature and pressure that favors  the conversion of dead animals to oil.
