ABSTRACT

Teacher motivation and job performance is still a research concern and focus. The study looked at the motivation of teachers and their job performance in public primary schools in Uruan Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of motivation on teachers’ performance in public primary schools. The study was conducted in public primary schools located in 12 clans in the study area. Using the table to determine a finite population 156 teachers were selected for the study. A Cronbach Alpha test was carried out to test the reliability of research instrument. The findings revealed that teachers in Uruan Local Government are not nor highly motivated and facilities in these schools are also poor. The lack of motivation in public schools in Uruan Local Government Area has influence teachers’ performance which is responsible for the poor performance recorded by public schools. Therefore, it was recommended that Government should take a priority the improvement of facilities in public primary schools in Uruan Local Government Area since this is the basic formative years of the child’s education.
