CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Human being engaged in various works in order to satisfy their wants. Unemployment can be define as a situation in which persons capable and willing to work or unable to find a suitable paid employment. In producing human wants (goods and services) land, labour, capital and entrepreneur are utilized, for this purpose labour being the most dynamic factor of production, combines with other factors to produce goods and services for consumption of the populace. If labour is unutilized or underutilized then there will be unemployment in the society.
Unemployment as the name implies get it's origin from the word employment. Unemployment is traceable to the period of industrialisation which brought higher standard of living than ever previously being before this period, the people of the primitive community were usually self sufficient and had no employment problems, though they had to accept a very low standard of living.
Unemployment is a universal phenomenon which has transverse every length and breath of the world. Nigerian experience is not an exception, her own situation now assumed an alarming proportion. To responsive and focused government, the deteriorating unemployment situation in Nigeria should be a source of worry, with the attendant social dislocation exemplified by high crime rate restiveness assailing the country. Nigeria against the prediction of it's economic team has had more than a fare share of the meltdown barden. In Nigeria today, more factories have found better option in West Africa coast, thus living Nigeria to established businesses in Ghana, Tigo and other relative smaller countries Chukumeka (2003).
