PROJECT TOPIC: THE BENEFIT OF HEALTH EDUCATION ON PREGNANT WOMEN ATTENDING CARE IN OKENE GENERAL HOSPITAL LOCAL GOVERNMENT OF KOGI STATE

Project Body:

CHAPTER ONE

  • INTRODUCTION
    • BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

An effective intervention against maternal mortality exists yet millions of pregnant women die of preventable complication due to lack of knowledge of current government intervention.

Antenatal Care is a useful, systematic assessment and follow-up of pregnant women that include education, counseling, screening and treatment to assure the best possible health of the mother and her fetus. World Health Organization (W.H.O 2005).

Antenatal Care has many components such as laboratory investigation, referral and health education.

World Health Organization statement on Antenatal Care January 2011.

Antenatal Care is very important to pregnant women as it helps prevent mothers and child mortality, prevent complication help foster a good relationship between the husband and wife, mother and child. 84.7% of pregnant women have at least one Antenatal Care contact with skilled personal. Minsante (2011).

Minsante (2011). Stated that to achieve the full life saving potential that Antenatal Care promises for women and babies four visits providing essential evidence based intervention.

In the 1914 study by William, Antenatal Care reduced fetal mortality by 40%. World Health Organization (W.H.O 2011).

The wide spread coverage of antenatal care is largely responsible for 80% globally of pregnant women access to Antenatal Care at least once with a skilled health personal.

Only half (15%) of pregnant women worldwide received the recommended amount i.e. four visit of care during pregnancy.

In some cases, some pregnancy women still present with complication e.g. hemorrhage, hypotensive disorder, pregnant relate infections, pre-eclampsia and eclampsia.

Antenatal Care can help women to prepare for delivery and understand warning sigh during pregnancy and child birth. (W.H.O 2014).

  • STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Good health for mothers is an impact public health concern. Death during childbirth is often the concluding event in a long story of pain and suffering. Millions more are left with pregnant disability and damage which impact their ability to undertake social and economic responsibilities and share in the development of their communities. The deaths, many of which may be preventable impact women who are not only childbearing but are also often the mainstays within a family.

(Scotland, Malawi partnership, 2010). Maternal motility and mortality constitute a serious health problem that requires systematic investigations and forestall the increase of infant mortality. Hence the problem of this study posed in question form is does health education during antenatal pose positive effect among pregnant mothers in Okene Local Government Kogi State.
