ABSTRACT
This study investigated the effect of early marriage on the social development of the girl child in Nigeria. The objectives of the study is to find out the influence of early marriage on the Health status, income level, and educational attainment of the girl child in Nigeria. The hypotheses of the study states that there is no association relationship between early marriage and educational attainment of the girl child in Nigeria; also, there is no significant association between early marriage and the income level of the girl child in Nigeria as well as no significant association between early marriage and the health status of the girl child in Nigeria. A total of (400) four hundred respondents were sampled and (5) five wards were selected randomly. Questionnaires were administered by the researcher so as to get primary data for the research. The data generated were presented and analyzed using chi-square with the help of SPSS. Based on the analysis, it was found out that there is a significant relationship between early marriage and educational attainment of the girl child in Nigeria, as well as a significant relationship between early marriage and the health status of the girl child in Nigeria.
