ABSTRACT
Using Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State as a case study, this work intends to discuss the impact of poverty and Child Abuse in Nigeria. The research work carefully examined and analysed the category and environment of the Yakurr people, their historical background, the concepts of poverty and child abuse as it relates most especially to Yakurr Local Government. Poverty has over the years become a general household challenge in almost every home in Nigeria. This development has undoubtedly promoted the occurrences of many other social vices like crime, insecurity and the abuse of minors (children) in society. Primary source and secondary source materials were used in carrying out this research which consequently showed that poverty and child abuse, were overwhelmingly acknowledged as serious social problem in Nigeria. Conclusively, the research study recommends very proactive interventions from parents, as well as the Government in checking the problem of poverty and child abuse in the Yakurr society of Cross River State, Nigeria.
