ABSTRACT
Construction materials constitute a huge portion of the total construction cost of any project; as such these construction materials should be well managed on site. In recent times where construction material prices are on a regular increase, improper handling, poor storage etc. can lead to serious materials wastage and eventually time and cost overrun of projects. As solution to the prevailing problem, this work tends to identify the importance of materials management on construction sites, identify various materials management methods and proffer means of improving the use of materials management on site. To achieve this, two hypothesis were formulated and a well constructed questionnaire was used to collate data. The hypotheses were tested with chi-square (X2) at 95% confidence level and 0.05 level of significance which showed that materials management on construction site is relevant to effective project delivery. From the findings, it was recommended that materials management methods be improved on and companies should train their staff on materials management on site. It was also recommended that policies be made at all levels of establishment to enforce the strict application of effective materials management on site.
