PROJECT TOPIC: DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN ORTHOPEDIC INFORMATION SYSTEM A CASE STUDY OF ORTHOPEDIC HOSPITAL ENUGU STATE

Project Body:

CHAPTER ONE

  1. INTRODUCTION

Computerized orthopedic information system is used in the processing orthopedic information and data. Orthopedic surgery entails operations on bones, muscles, and joints. Orthopedic surgery allows for the replacement of hip and knee joints with artificial joints made of special metals and plastics. Fractures in bones are repaired with the implantation of pins, metal plates, and screws. These techniques greatly reduce the time needed for healing and recuperation. A subdivision of orthopedic surgery is sports medicine, which treats injuries and coordinates physical rehabilitation of amateur and professional athletes.

They also treat back problems, such as strains, ruptured discs, or curvatures; foot problems, such as flat feet or high arches; and neck disorders, such as strains or arthritis. Surgeons employ mechanical appliances, such as braces, splints, and casts, and in surgical procedures extensively use hardware such as screws, pins, nails, and bolts and nuts, particularly in repairing broken bones. In the 20th century open operations are performed freely; many deformities are cured by operative means alone; and improved X-ray techniques have made the diagnosis of bone and joint lesions more exact and the results of treatment more satisfactory. The transplantation of bone, fascia, muscle, and tendon for the restoration of function to, or the replacement of, destroyed tissue and even the use of newly devised metal prostheses to replace arthritic joints are now commonplace.

This computerized orthopedic information system will help the hospital in the following areas.

  1. To assist medical organization to maintain concise patients monitoring.  This project is designed to overview how computer can be use to operation in hospital set-up system.  Consequence, this can also serve as aid for computer efficiency designed to carry out administrative job.
  2. In the event of huge investment the risk at least will be reduced, this means that when the hospital spends a hug capital to carry out some project, that they will recover the capital with minimum risk.
