ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to investigate road safety education knowledge and compliance to road traffic signs and code among keke commercial drivers in Uyo Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. To achieve this objective, eight research questions and eight research hypotheses were formulated to guide this study. The data was collected from both primary and secondary sources. The primary data were collected with the help of a well-structured questionnaire of two sections administered to the selected keke commercial drivers in Uyo Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The collected data were analyzed tables and simple percentages were used to analyze the research questions. All data were coded using SPSS software. The study revealed that there is a significant relationship between road safety education knowledge and compliance to warning signs among Keke commercial drivers in Akwa Ibom State; there is a significant relationship between road safety education knowledge and compliance to prohibitory signs among Keke commercial drivers in Akwa Ibom State and there is a significant relationship between road safety education knowledge and compliance to mandatory signs among Keke commercial drivers in Akwa Ibom State, etc. The study concluded with some recommendations that government at all levels should introduce road education in Nigeria system of education.
